Gunmen attack village, kill 6 in Plateau state.

About six persons have been killed following gunmen’s attack on Tegbe Village, Miango district in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The six individuals comprising three males, two females and an infant were reported to have been murdered, with some other villagers, sustaining various degrees of injuries, over the weekend.

The gunmen struck after the state government had imposed a 12-hour curfew on the local government.

Speaking on the attack, the Police Commisioner in the state, Undie Adie, during an assessment tour of the village. The CP had described the ambush as a shock taking into account, the curfew imposed in the area.

According to Adie, “the gunmen took advantage of the restriction to unleash terror on three villages with houses burnt, lives lost and people injured.”

Speaking with newsmen on Sunday, an eyewitness disclosed that the assailants ambushed the village at about midnight on Saturday and shot sporadically. He described the attack, saying it “caught the people unaware.”

He also said he escaped by the whiskers, while the attackers set on fire,some houses and barns storing farm produce.

The state government had also criticized the attack in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director, Press and Public Affairs, Samuel Nanle.

The government disclosed that the attack sought to “take the state back to the dark days of violent conflicts” and vowed to identify and prosecute all those behind the heinous crime.

The government also cautioned that any one or group in villages and neighbourhoods discovered to have been providing protection and escape for assailants of the act would also face the law.
