-Gen. Ibrahim Babangida endorses Chief Raymond Dokpesi to contest PDP national chairmanship position.

-The former head of state described Dokpesi as highly recommended for the position.

Nigeria’s former military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, on Thursday endorsed Raymond Dokpesi for the position of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dokpesi was at the Minna residence of the former military head of state on a courtesy call ahead of the December PDP national convention where a substantive party chairman is expected to emerge.

“Democracy is about choice and only people with vision, courage and strong commitment to the unity of the country such as you can lead the PDP.

“Politicians should always have a vision for a united and strong Nigeria as a shining example of democracy in Africa,” Babangida said.

“Therefore, I have blessed High Chief Dokpesi to pursue the noble objective of contesting for the post of national chairman of PDP,” he said.

In his response,  Dokpesi thanked Babangida for the confidence reposed in him and prayed for God’s continued guidance on the former head of state.

Dokpesi was the director-general of Babangida’s presidential campaign in 2011.
