Resident Doctors begin strike in Ekiti State

-Ekiti state resident doctors begin 3 days warning strike.

-The doctors are protesting the non-payment of their salary arrears by the government.

Doctors in Ekiti State, under the auspices of The Association of Resident Doctors on Tuesday, embarked on a three-day warning strike over the non-payment of their six-month salary arrears by the state government.

Speaking on behalf of other affected doctors, Tunji Olaoye, President of the association in Ekiti state, said workers could no longer afford to come to work without getting paid as the government has refused to pay their salary arrears despite several prior warnings given to the government.

His statement was contained in a letter addressed to the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health; Chairman, Board of management, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital; Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, security agencies and NARD President, in which they were notified of the impending strike action.

The letter reads in part: “Following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum on September 15, 2017, the association held an emergency general meeting on October 9 where members observed that the six-month salary arrears owed our members have not been attended to.

“The congress resolved that a three-day warning strike be commended from 8am October 10, 2017 to 8am October 13, 2017. During this period, the services of all our members will be withdrawn.

“We use this medium to appeal to our government to urgently see to the payment of our six-month salary arrears to avert a total and. indefinite strike action.”
