-A commercial motocyclist has been reportedly killed in Ibadan by a policeman in a clash.

-The clash led to tension and panic as many residents fled for their safety.

Pandemonium broke out on Tuesday, in the Yemetu area of Ibadan, Oyo State as a commercial motorcyclist was shot dead by a policeman which resulted in a clash between other commercial motorcyclists and the police in the area.

Naija News gathered that the victim was shot by the policeman after he declined to give the money demanded from him.

A resident of the area, Abiodun Okunuga, told Punch correspondent that after the commercial motorcyclist was shot, his colleagues decided to avenge his death.

He said hoodlumes in the area also joined the commercial motorcyclists and they attempted to raze down the police station in Yemetu.

“We were all confused because of the crisis. We ran in different directions because we feared that we could be hit by flying bullets.

“Someone said the hoodlums also came with guns and engaged the policemen in a shootout,” he said.

Another resident, anonymously gave another version of the incident, saying a bullet from an accidentally hit a man when policemen raided a notorious joint in the Yemetu area which led to a protest against the raid by some youths.

It was learnt that the hoodlums used weapons like cutlasses and broken bottles during the clash.

However, policemen also shot into the air in order to disperse the attackers and protect the police station from being burnt by irated youths.

Naija News learnt that the crisis later spread to Beere, Oje, Dandaru and other areas around Yemetu.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the clash, adding that there was no evidence that anyone died in the clash.

He said no body had made any report that anyone died in the clash.

“Some policemen were on routine patrol in the Yemetu area when suspected hoodlums attacked them,”he said.

Mr. Ajisebutu therefore said seven people have been arrested in connection with the clash.
