Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has prohibited the operations of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria in the state.

The directive for the ban of the group was give on Tuesday, with the governor ordering that the executive council be immediately dissolved.

The ban of the Okada riders association was made known in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Segun Ajiboye.

Ajiboye stated that the state government’s action was prompted by a series of complaints about illicit activities orchestrated by commercial motorcycle operators in the state.

The statement read in part, “The suspension of the activities of the association follows several complaints of illegal activities levelled against the body.”

The statement also cautioned commercial motorcyclists in Ondo to adhere strictly to the directive and maintain the peace.

The government hence declared that it would manage the affairs of the union pending  when the issues are resolved.

“The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy is to take over the running of the activities of the association in the interim,” the statement said.
