With the outbreak of the new disease, Monkey Pox, erstwhile Vice-President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar,has urged the Federal Government to promptly devise measures to stop the spread.

Atiku appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Bayelsa State Government to adequately inform citizens on the Monkey Pox disease and tackle the outbreak.

He expressed his opinion via his twitter handle on Friday morning.

Atiku said, “The discovery of monkeypox in Bayelsa is alarming and should be seen as a national emergency, to halt its spread.

“I’m urging the FG, Bayelsa State government, and response agencies to cooperate to enlighten citizens, and fight the outbreak.

“We all share a responsibility to share correct information on the Monkey Pox disease. Just like we fought Ebola, we will fight this and win.”

Monkey Pox has spread in Bayelsa, with not less that 10 persons, including a doctor reportedly been quarantined as a result of the virus.
