Police arrest alleged serial killer, others

-Police has announced the arrest of a serial killer, Basir Barau and four others terrorising Katsina communities.

A notorious serial killer, Basiru Barau, aka Gojen-Mallam, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command.

The command, according to Punch, revealed this on Wednesday and its spokesperson DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the arrest, saying no fewer than three murder cases had been committed by Barau.

Barau, age 25, was reportedly a resident of the Tudun Wada area, Funtua, Katsina State.

According to Isah in a statement: “The Katsina State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has succeeded in arresting a wanted notorious serial killer, Basiru Barau, alias Gojen-Mallam, of the Tudun Wada area of Funtua, Katsina State.

“The suspect is a notorious member of an unlawful society of social miscreants otherwise known as Kauraye. He had been declared wanted by the command in connection with three homicide cases alleged to have been perpetrated by him and his group.

“On July 30, 2014, the suspect was alleged to have attacked one Aliyu Abubakar, aged 22, of Hayin Low-cost Estate, hacking him to death.

“Also, on July 4, 2017, the suspect was alleged to have attacked one Abubakar Yusuf, aged 22, of Gangaren-Gangariya, Funtua, and hacked him to death.

“Furthermore, on September 7, 2017, one Samaila Idris, aged 20, of BCGA, Funtua, was found in a pool of blood with his legs badly cut and one of his hands amputated behind Sambo Primary School, Funtua.

“The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Funtua, where he was examined and confirmed dead by a doctor. During police investigation, evidence emerged that Gojen-Mallam committed the crime. Investigations into the case are continuing with a view to tracking down the other fleeing members of the gang.”

In a related development, the arrest of a four-man robbery gang on September 22 by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squadon for allegedly terrorising Katsina communities was also announced by the command.

The names of the suspects are: Yusuf Hamisu, aka Masheka, 20; Usman Sani, aka Manuwa, 19; Yusuf Abdullahi, aka Sparo, 19; and Aminu Sa’adu, aka Fillo, 25.

Recovered from the suspects are four Infinix handsets, one Blackberry Q-10, one Samsung tab, three Techno handsets, two Nokia phones, one HP laptop, three machetes and a sum of N250,000.
