Bayern Munich have sacked their Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti and replaced him with Willy Sagnol until the end of the season.

The 58-year-old tactician signed a three year deal in 2016 but leaves the post after just one full season in charge of the German champions following the embarrassing defeat they suffered in the hands of PSG.

The German club succumbed to a 3-0 defeat in their Champions League clash in Paris, and the Italian coach was heavily criticized for his team selection in which he left the trio of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Mats Hummels out of the starting XI.

After the game, The 58-year-old said : “I know I will get criticism, that’s fine. I thought it was a good line-up for this game”.

But announcing the news of the coach’s sacking, Bayern CEO, Rummenigge said on Thursday,”The performance of the team since the start of the season did not meet the expectations we put to them,”

“The game in Paris clearly showed that there had to be consequences. Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and I gave Carlo an open and serious discussion today and informed him of our decision.”

The Italian tactician had previously coached PSG, Real Madrid and Chelsea before replacing Pep Guardiola who left for Manchester City.
