Five Kwara officials charged to court for alleged forgery

-Five officials in Kwara state taken to court for forgery and defrauding innocent tax payers.

Five government officials in Kwara State have been arraigned before the State Revenue Court by the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, KWIRS, for alleged forgery of tax receipts.

The Director of Legal and Enforcement at the agency, Lateef Okandeji, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday.

He gave the names of the accused as Adebola Ajibare, 37, (KWIRS), Adeleke Hakeem, 34, Moshood Isiaka, 33, Adisa Abdullahi, 32 and Ayilara Adenike, 42.

Mr. Okandeji said that one of the officials works with KWIRS while the other four work with the state Bureau of Lands.

He said the agency in August discovered that some prospective tax payers within Ilorin and its environs were being issued with fake receipts of the agency showing huge payments by the tax payers. Thereafter, the agency informed the police and the accused were arrested after carrying out investigation.

The director said the accused had conspired and forged the documents of the agency to defraud innocent tax payers, adding that they have confessed to the crime.

The magistrate, Shade Lawal, however, permitted the accused to bail.

She therefore, adjourned the case to October 10, for further hearing.
