Teenager remanded in prison for defiling minor

Teenager, Mose Lawal, allegeded of defiling a four-year-old girl in Niger, has been remanded in police custody, by the Minna Magistrates’ Grade 1 Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor for the state Child Rights Protection Agency,Mr Abdullahi Mayaki, disclosed in court that the incident occurred on Aug. 29, at Anguwa Soje in the Kpankungu area of Chanchaga Local Government, Niger.

Mayaki stated that the offence breacheded Section 18, sub-section 2 of Niger State Child Right Law, News Agency of Nigeria reported.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him, and the prosecutor enjoined the court not to grant him bail because the offence was grave and attracts severe punishment on conviction.

Consequently, the Chief Magistrate, Hassan Mohammed, ruled that the accused be remanded in police custody and adjourned the case to Sept. 21, for a mention.
