Farmer steals cassava, kills owner for attempting to raise alarm

A 33-year-old farmer, Azeez Kelani, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police over the alleged attack of his colleague, David Adima, to death after stealing his crop.

Kelani had infiltrated Adima’s farm at Sojuolu village, Ibogun, in the Ewekoro Local Government, Ogun sate to steal some tubers of cassava, where he was caught in the act by the farm owner, Punch reported.

Late Adima with Benue State origin, raised the alarm immediately he caught Kelani.

Unfortunately, the suspect, who was armed with a machete, was reported to have attacked his fellow farmer, slitting the man’s throat with the cutlass.

The victim was reported to have bled to death.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, parading the suspect alongside others, on Monday at the state police command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, disclosed that the gruesome incident happened on August 13, 2017.

Kelani was among 43 suspects paraded for crimes ranging from child trafficking, armed robbery to kidnapping and murder.

“The suspect hacked the farmer to death to cover up his crime,” the CP said.

However, Kelani denied killing Adima, claiming that the deceased had wanted to strike him with the machete and then they started struggling.

He said, “The machete slit Adima’s throat during the struggle.”
