First female Guber candidate in Anambra emerges, Okafor wins APDA candidacy

Arch. Adaeze Okafor has won the governorship primary election of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), emerging as the candidate to represent the party for the November 18 Anambra governorship election.

Adaeze is now the first ever female gubernatorial candidate in Anambra, as she defeated her opponent Mr. Izuegbu Chinedu Chima by 390 – 3 votes.

The primary was conducted Sunday in Awka, the state capital.

APDA used biometric voting system in the exercise observed by a representative of INEC, Nasiru Mohammed.

The INEC official praised the party in employing the biometric voting system, saying it lessened the typical case of thousands of people crowding in particular place to cast votes.

Adaeze was declared winner by the chairman of the governorship primaries for Anambra, Mallam Yunusa Sarki, FCT Chairman of the APDA.

In her acceptance speech, she pledged to utilise her wealth of experience in creating a new Anambra which the people will be proud of.

The candidate has a B.A in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, BSc and MSc Architecture from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, and California Teaching Credential from National University, Los Angeles.
