Boko Haram: IDPs protest over non-supply of food, other items

Internally Displaced Persons in Gubio road camp yesterday evening staged a protest in the camp alleging that they had lacked food supply for more than three weeks.

The protest gradually became violent, resulting in the arrests of some individuals by security operatives, Daily Post reported.

Naija News gathered that an IDP, Bafu Goni disclosed to newsmen that five vehicles belonging to some non-governmental organizations were damaged during the protest.

Goni added that the protest of the IDPs was due to the non-supply of food, reduction of food ration and constant and unnecessary registration and re-registration of the IDPs.

“The protest was a last resort as all efforts to resolve the matter peacefully proved impossible,” he said.

The IDPs stated that they had informed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA including their local government authorities, about their predicament but no action was taken.

“The arrested persons were released, and civil society groups have assured that they will take up the case to the relevant bodies,” Goni added

Both NEMA and SEMA are yet to comment on the protest.
