There were several reports indicating that Kwankwaso and 10 other All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains dumped the ruling party for PDP.

According to Daily Trust, the former Governor, has however in a statement issued by his personal assistant, Nafiu Umar Dankura described the reports as false.

The statement reads: “I want to categorically dispel the rumour and fake news that is circulating in some online media and radio stations that distinguished Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has defected to the PDP. This is not true as we all know he played a key role in the formation of the APC and he is still one of the strong pillars of the party.”

Fears were entertained by some APC members over rumours that Kwankwaso had left APC for PDP amid fears that Kano State where he holds great influence over the voting populace may tip the 2019 elections in favour of any party which he supports.

Recall that following the supreme court’s ruling on the PDP leadership tussle, the party has said that it will work hard to bring back some of its influential members while also vowing to defeat APC at the 2019 general polls.
