Wife of Kebbi Governor launches breastfeeding rooms

Wife of the President Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari on Monday commissioned breast feeding rooms set up by Dr Zainab Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, wife of the Kebbi State Government for working mothers in the state ministries, departments and agencies.
During her speech at the commissioning ceremony at the state secretariat, Gwadangwaji area of Birnin Kebbi, Aisha who was represented by her Special Assistant, Hajiya Ajo Sani, said the initiative which is the first of its kind in the country.
Mrs. Buhari added that the initiative is timely and significant as it has come at the period when the country is celebrating the world breast feeding day.

According to her, “Today’s event is taking place at the state level in collaboration with my Future Assured Programme with the aim to encourage a separate area where mothers can conveniently breastfeed their babies in the work place.”
Hajiya Buhari said further that the initiative would uphold the health and wellbeing of mothers and children towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She urged wives of governors in other states to emulate the breastfeeding initiative of the wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Zainab Abubakar Atiku towards improving breast feeding among mothers in the state.
Dr Zainab Bagudu had said during her speech that global statistics indicated that 100,000 children died annually due to inadequate breastfeeding by mothers, leading to $21bn economic loss annually.
