Four herdsmen arrested over killing of farmer in Ondo

Fulani Herdsmen Reportedly Kills 100 In Benue

– The farmer was allegedly killed during an argument with the herdsmen on his farm.

Ondo State Police Command has arrested four people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen over the killing of a farmer, identified as Omowole Orimisan on his farm at Ore in Odigbo local government area of the state.

The suspects identified as Ibrahim Yussuf, 19, Soja, 20, Halti, 20 and Musa 25.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the wife of the deceased, Abiodun, informed the police about the killing of her husband last Thursday.

Punch reports that Orimisan was killed on his farm during an argument with the herdsmen as he challenged them for destroying his farm.

The incident however, led to a protest by the residents of the community who threatened to take laws into their hands if something was not done urgently to stop the incessant killing of farmers in the area.

Joseph said operatives of the command acted immediately after the matter was reported at the Ore Division leading to the arrest of the four suspects.

He said, “another suspect who was identified as Dere is still at large and we are making all efforts to arrest, and I am sure very soon he would be arrested.”

The leader of Ikale residents in Ore, Chief Owoleye Obilana, while reacting to the incident said the despotizing act of the must be curtailed and called on the government and the security agents to be proactive measures.
