BREAKING: Scores Trapped As Three-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

A four-storeyed building collapsed on Massey Street, Lagos Island on Tuesday which left many residents trapped.

It was gathered that a telecommunications mast was mounted on the ramshackle building two weeks ago, which further propelled the crash of the building.

PUNCH reports that 16 persons had been rescued from the collapsed building and taken to different hospitals for treatment as at Tuesday morning.

It was learnt that the incident led to traffic in the area as rescue officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the state fire service, the National Emergency Management Agency and the Lagos State Ambulance Service, strife to get other victims out of the destruction.
The LASEMA General Manager, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, called for calm as rescue operation continued.

He said, “A four-storeyed building totally collapsed at about 2.43pm today, July 25, 2017, on Massey Street, Lagos Island.
“Fourteen victims were rescued while recovery operation is ongoing by agencies led by LASEMA Response Unit. Other agencies involved in the operation include the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Red Cross and the police. Heavy duty equipment is searching through the rubble.”
