Breaking: Osinbajo will swear in new ministers today

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will swear in the two ministers-designate today Wenesday, July 26.

This was confirmed in a tweet on Tuesday evening by Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant-Media and Publicity to  the Vice President.


The confirmation has been long overdue, Naija News recalls that Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan from have been confirmed by the senate since May. 

Ocheni from kogi is expected to be the replacement for Nigeria’s former labour minister, James Ocholi who died in a car accident in March, 2016,

Suleiman Hassan from Gombe would replace former Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed left President Muhammadu led administration to serve as Deputy Secretary-General of United Nations

At a press briefing on Tuesday, Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, refused to be specific about the time when they would be sworn in.

“The swearing in will be done sooner than you expect,” Adesina had said.

“I like the word soon that you used because that is the real position. The ministers will be sworn in soon, sooner than you think it will happen.”

On July 11, the house of representatives gave a seven-day ultimatum to Osinbajo to inaugurate the ministers, but nothing was heard from the lawmakers after the deadline elapsed and oath was not administered on the cabinet members.
