Manchester City have completed the £52 million signing of Benjamin Mendy from Monaco, adding him to their list of summer arrivals which includes Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, Benfica goalkeeper Ederson as well as Mendy’s Monaco team-mate Bernardo Silva.

The 23 year old France international signed a five-year deal with the English premier league side , becoming their fourth major signing of the summer, and eclipses the £45m fee City paid for Kyle Walker last week.

Manager Pep Guardiola is focused on the future with City, explaining on Thursday that the players he is targeting this summer “are young players, with the next three, four, five years in mind”.

Mendy, who only joined Monaco last summer in a €12m deal from Marseille, helped the Stade Louis II side to the Ligue 1 title last season. He created nine goals in only 32 outings in Ligue 1 and Champions League combined and has already won five caps for France as well.

He will now join up with his new teammates in the USA where Pep Guardiola and his squad are preparing for their second pre-season tour game against Real Madrid in LA.

City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, said: “Benjamin has all the qualities we are looking for in a full-back. For such a young player, he has a wealth of top-level experience.

“He is undoubtedly one of the world’s best full-backs, our number one target in this position. We are all delighted to have him here at Manchester City.

“I’m sure he will prove a fantastic addition to the squad.”
