A party agent has complained that the electorate and the all the stakeholders have had to ‘manage’ on their own, as the policemen that were supposed to maintain la and order have been absent in one of the areas.

Our correspondent reports that the turnout in Ward C Unit 018 Ikoyi 1 has so far been very poor.

LASIEC officials said this has made party agents to embark on encouraging voters to come out.

Council polls: Why we won’t vote –Lagos youths

Young Nigerians in some parts of Lagos have expressed their dissatisfaction with their leaders by refusing to be part of the voting exercise during this ongoing council polls in the state.

At about 11.15am, our correspondent, who went round Oshodi and its environs observed many youths playing football on major streets in the area.

Many of them said the state and federal governments had not done anything significant to make their lives and communities better.

“We don’t want to vote because our leaders have not done anything for us, the roads are bad, no electricity, what is the essence of voting then, said 24-year-old Adeyemi Sunday.

Similarly, another youth, Olu, 26, said he did not have a voter’s card. “Even if I did, I will not vote,” he said.

“They are not concerned whether we vote or not. They (elected officials) would still get into office despite oyr votes and do nothing,” said 21-year-old John Onwuka.

Soldiers in two trucks stopped at Pen Cinema where youths were playing football on a road. The youths fled and the soldiers told them not to panic.They didn’t continue the exercise until the soldiers left.

The Lagos State Police Command said five fake party agents have been arrested.

It, however, did not state where the arrest was made and the identities of the suspects.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspects were apprehended by policemen attached to the Area F command.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole confirmed the arrest.

“But I am yet to get details of the suspects. They are in our custody,” he added.
