Local government workers in Kwara state across the 16 councils have rejected the N1 billion approved to offset their salary arrears from the N5.12billion Paris Club loan refund.

Vanguard reports that the secretariat of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, in a statement, yesterday, directed the state government not to credit the said sum into the account of the councils unless it met 75 percent of the N5.12 billion.

According to NULGE, the 75 percent was agreed on between governors and the Federal Government before the release of the refund.

Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communication, Dr. Muideen Akorede, while speaking on a radio programme yesterday, said the governor, who is currently in Abuja for the National Economic Council meeting, will meet with the labour leaders and leaders of thought when he returns to the state.
