U.S. Military Expresses Support For Diplomatic Efforts Against North Korea

The U.S. military has expressed its readiness to provide possible options to President Donald Trump over the continued launch of ballistic missiles by North Korea.

In a statement by the U.S. Department of Defence, Secretary of Defence, Jim Mattis revealed the information saying “The military remains ready in accordance with our alliance with Japan, with Korea’’.

The Defence Secretary said during a news conference in the Pentagon, that diplomatic and economic efforts are still the leading strategies to convince North Korea to discontinue its nuclear and missile programmes.

According to him, “The President and Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, have been very clear that we are leading with diplomatic and economic efforts.

“The North Korean launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile on July 4 is a very serious escalation and provocation and also an affront to the United Nations Security Council resolutions’’.

Mattis emphasised the solely against North Korea as purely diplomatically steered and the weapons of choice are economic sanctions. He, however, included that these efforts would be reinforced by military capabilities.

According to him, “We stand ready to provide options if they are necessary’’.

Meanwhile, the U.S. officials are currently working with China – North Korea’s largest trading partner– to influence North Korean leaders to end the nuclear and missile programmes.

The country is also working with allies to convince North Korea to end its war prone activities.
