The Federal Government Discloses Plans To Publish Names of Looters

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the release of names of treasury looters.

This was revealed by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, to State House correspondents on Wednesday following the Federal Executive Council meeting.

The judgment ruled by Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari in respect of Freedom of Information suit number: FHC/CS/964/2016 brought by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), ordered the Federal Government to “immediately release to Nigerians, information about the names of high-ranking public officials from whom public funds were recovered and the circumstances under which funds were recovered, as well as the exact amount recovered from each public official”.

Mr Malami told newsmen that government agrees with the ruling and will execute the order.

He also implied that the Council has approved a guide for the implementation of the newly established anti-corruption strategy.

He added that the policy aims at improving enforcement and injunctions in the continued anti-corruption war in the nation.
