What can one do to help sustain the planet? That’s a question on the lips of Amusa Temitope Victor, the CEO of Vicfold Recyclers a recycling firm in Ilorin, giving voice to environment advocacy by promoting recycling through reward for waste initiative.
To commemorate this year’s world environment day, they organized a road walk which kicked off at 8am, from General Post Office Area, Ilorin, along the way participants engaged in litter picking and environment advocacy to passersby and shop owners along the axis. The group eventually converged at Pake LGEA where a tree planting and beautification ceremony was held.
This year’s theme is about connecting people to nature, which means encouraging people to get outdoors and appreciate the beauty of the planet in a bid to show people the importance of protecting it for future generations.
In his welcome charge, the Kwara state commissioner for environment Otunba Tunde Joseph commended Vicfold Recyclers for the initiative and their effort to encourage sustainable living. He appealed to participants to use this opportunity answer the call to connect with nature and contribute to the environment.
Mr Amusa added that trees help fights climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and providing us with the oxygen we breathe. He also encouraged people to organize litter pickups, not only in their neighborhoods, but in schools and community centers.
A cross section of participants at the event include; media representatives, staff of the Kwara state ministry of environment, students from tertiary institutions and lovers of nature.
