Bafana Bafana of South Africa have made history against Nigeria as they secured a 2-0 win over the Super Eagles today, Saturday 10 June.

Second-half goals from Tokelo Rantie and Percy Tau sealed a first competitive win for Bafana at the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday.

Having missed out on back-to-back editions of the AFCON, many had expected the Eagles to hit the ground running in other to stage a return for the 2019 edition.

However, that was not the case as the team only played fairly well in the first and lost it totally in the second half.

Before Saturday’s game, Nigeria and South Africa have had 12 previous meetings and Bafana Bafana had only won a friendly 13 years ago.

Fully determined to break the trend the South Africans took the game to Nigeria and were rewarded with two second half goals that has handed them the bragging rights over Nigeria,

After ending it barren in the first half, Tekelo Rantie headed Bafana Bafana in front after 54 minutes when he powered home a cross from the right past goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi

South Africa, who continued to enjoy more of the ball after their goal, doubled their lead in the 80th minute through Percy Tau, who rounded up Akpeyi off a through ball by Dolly to score.

After the first set of games, Libya  lead Group E having trounced Seychelles 5-1 on Friday night in Cairo, Egypt and they are closely followed by South Africa who also have three points but a lesser goals’ difference.
