Aggrieved individuals under the banner of Global Centre for Conscious Living Against Corruption on Thursday bisieged the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), demanding the resignation of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC.

The protesters displayed placards which read ‘All we are saying, Magu must go’, ‘Magu must go’, among others.

Speaking with journalists, Gabriel Nwamba, leader of the protesters, said the EFCC under Magu had several cases of human right violation.

He called on President Buhari to replace Magu with a more competent person who would “work towards the realisation the Buhari administration’s goal in fighting against corruption”.

“The mode of operation of the EFCC under Magu has shown several cases of gross human right violation. The fact that the EFCC speaks too soon to the extent of suspecting people on the pages of newspapers is against the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria,” Nwamba said.

“Magu is now operating under another constitution.

“In the interest of peace and respect for the tenets of modern democracy hinged on the rule of law, civil society organisations and indeed many Nigerians who support President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade hereby, as a matter of urgency, request the authorities concerned to immediately remove Ibrahim Magu as acting chairman of the EFCC and replace him with more competent Nigerian citizen for the realisation of the present administration’s goal in fighting corruption.”
