Kogi State News: Corper Arrested While Trying To Rob Ecobank ATM

A National Youth Service Corps member serving in Kogi State has been arrested for allegedly breaking into an Automated Teller Machine of a new generation bank, with the intention to steal.

The man identified as Aka-Jude Tersoo was among the 36 suspects arrested in the last one week in the state. The police also arrested five persons believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect were apprehended by the officers and men of the command.

Speaking more on the arrested criminals yesterday in Lokoja, the Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, said that the culprit, Akah Jude Tersoo, who was posted to the state for the one-year national service, was apprehended alongside an accomplice, Godwin Idih, on April 26th around 2.30am.

Inalegwu said the arrested men were caught while attempting to break the ATM belonging to the EcoBank with digger and axe with the aim to rob the bank.

“My men who were on patrol duty noticed suspicious movement at EcoBank branch, Ganaja junction, Lokoja, and stopped to observe.

“On close examination, they saw two individuals who were later identified as Godwin Idih and Aka-jude Tersoo breaking the ATM with digger and axe.

“The police team promptly intercepted and arrested the suspects with the exhibits. But sadly, one of them is a serving corps member.”

Commending the men for their gallantly, Inalegwu said 15 notorious armed robbers were arrested across the state in the week under review; while an additional eight persons were also arrested for being the receivers of stolen vehicles.

Other items recovered from the robbers are: AK47rifles, live cartridges, charms, a cheque of N8.4m submitted by Abimaje Yakubu at First Bank Lokoja but belonging to the manager of Fava travels, Mr. Victor Edomwande.
