Just In: Journalist murdered in Bayelsa state

Famous Giobaro, a journalist who works with Bayelsa Radio Corporation, Glory FM 97.1 Yenagoa has been murdered

Giobaro, who was popularly known as the ‘ Famous Man on Radio’ was shot dead by some unknown gunmen.

The unknown gunmen was said to have stormed his apartment on INEC Road, Kpasia in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital and shot him dead.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Sahara Reporters, the suspected killers stormed his apartment at about 5 a.m on Sundayand had stiff resistance from the late journalist who barricaded the door as they tried to forcefully gain entrance into his house.

In the scuffle, the gunmen were said to have shot the journalist through the door. The bullet hit him in the stomach.

According to reports, the gunmen then went ahead with their operation shooting the journalist him several times before they left the area.

DSP Asinim Butswat, the Bayelsa state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident.

He however said he was yet to get full details of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa state council said they have received the news of Famous Giobaru death with rude shock.

They also call on the Police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.
