Nigeria v Senegal: Super Eagles 1-1 Teranga Lions

Manchester City forward Kelechi Ihenacho saved Nigeria as he grabbed a late equalizer to help the Super Eagles force the Teranga Lions to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match played on Thursday in London.

Though guilty of not burying the chances that came his way earlier in the game, Iheanacho did the needful when Nigeria won an 83rd minute penalty kick.

Moussa Sow had put the Lions in front in the 54th minute and while it was looking like Coach Genort Rohr’s unbeaten run will come to an end in London, Iheanacho rescued the day.

First Half
There were no goals after the first 45 minutes of action in the friendly game between the Super Eagles and the Teranga Lions of Senegal.

It was the Lions that started on the front foot and they could have taken the lead inside the first 12 minutes when Ndoye hit the post.

The Senegal team were pressing as a unit and that made things difficult for the Eagles finding it hard to play from the back.

The Super Eagles finally got out of their shell in the 17th minute when Moses Simon made a dazzling run down the left flank but he could not find his man in Iheanacho when he swung in a cross.

It was gradually looking good for Nigeria with the captain of the night, Ogenyi Onazi playing his role perfectly.

Things however took a turn for the worse when Onazi was hack down by Senegal player, Mame Diouf and the Turkey-based was finally taken out.

However, Nigeria was not weakened by the exit of Onazi, infact there was more stability with the introduction of John Ogu.

With the proceedings continuing, both keepers at the two end were tested but the first half failed to produce any goals.

Second half

Just like it was in the first half,  it was Senegal that were the brighter side in the early exchanges in the second half winning a free kick in a dangerous position that could have seen them breaking the deadlock.

The persistent pressure from the Lions paid off for them in the 54th minute when Sow was fortunate to get the ball and finished emphatically.

With the Super Eagles chasing the game, Rohr made a double substitution, pulling out Iwobi and Moses Simon; replacing them with the duo of Oghenekaro Etebo and Isaac Success.

The introduction did pay off as Eagles mounted a better challenge which led to the team getting a 83rd minute penalty kick converted by Iheanacho.

The Eagles will on Monday face Burkina Faso.
