BREAKING: House of Rep summons NYSC DG over deaths
The Nigerian House of Representatives has summoned the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps scheme Brigadier General Sule Zakari Kazaure over the death of three corp members in the last two weeks.
The lawmakers want the NYSC boss to come and answer questions on the recent deaths of some Youth corps members.
The House also resolved that a delegation from the lower house will be sent on a condolence visit to families of corps members who died.
Olufemi Fakeye of Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Illa federal constituency of Osun state, in a motion titled “Unfortunate and Avoidable Death of late Miss. Ifedolapo Racheal Oledepo, a Corps meber at the Kano state Orientation Camp“, noted that the death of a first-class graduate of Aviation and Transport Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology could have been avoided.
He noted that Orientation Camp authorities failed to act promptly when she reported her sickness to them because they thought she was trying to avoid camp activities. She was eventually admitted into the camp clinic but it was by then too late.
Recall that a newly deployed female youth corp member named Miss Chiyerum Elechi died at her place of deployment in Bayelsa state after profuse bleeding from her orifices. Chiyerum was one of three to die within days of getting to their orientation camps.
