The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership has reportedly expressed worries over the silence of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike‘s camp following their meeting in Enugu State on Sunday.

Naija News recalls that five governors elected on the platform of the opposition party who are loyalists to Governor Wike, met on Sunday in Enugu to deliberate over the crisis rocking the party which involves PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The Governors include Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde; Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Wike.

However, the party chieftains have since kept mum about the outcome of their meeting and the development is said to have unsettled the leadership of the party as the 2023 general elections draw near.

A chieftain of the party who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity, however, believed that the lingering dispute can only be settled by the Board of Trustees (BoT) Reconciliation Committee and Atiku.

Recall that Wike and his allies have been at war with the leadership of the party since the conduct of PDP’s national convention where Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was nominated as the vice presidential candidate of the party for the 2023 elections.

Wike and his group have since continued to demand the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the chairman of the party, to be replaced by a southerner to balance the leadership positions in the party which they said had been in favour of the North.

Speaking, however, with Daily Trust ahead of a scheduled meeting, a chieftain of the party said they are now waiting for the outcome of the efforts of the BoT to be headed by the acting chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

He said: “Everything now depends on the reconciliation efforts of the BoT, after the meeting between Atiku and Wike on Thursday.

“Many people were thinking that the governors will make their position known after the Sunday meeting in Enugu, but as it stands no one is sure.”
