A three-storey building located in the Adabor Junction, Ashi, Bodija, Ibadan area of Oyo State has collapsed, leading to the loss of goods worth several millions of Naira.

It is understood that the building which housed a pharmacy, supermarket and a church collapsed about midnight on Sunday but no life was lost.

Naija News understands the security guard who was the only one on ground during the incident, escaped.

Speaking on the incident, a resident of the area said the land on which the building was erected used to be a cemetery before it was sold and converted during the administration of Governor Alao Akala.

The resident identified as Tunde Abulesowo said as quoted by The Nation that: “When the land was sold, all corpses in the cemetery were exhumed before the building was erected, the building was built during former Governor Akala’s administration.

“The building has been giving a sign of cracking before it later came down, millions of good and properties have been trapped in the rubbles.”

“We are making efforts to salvage the goods and make sure hoodlums don’t have access to it so that they won’t cart it away, we have called the Police and NEMA, no life was lost and nobody was injured.”

Another resident, Sade Aderibigbe said they initially thought it was an ongoing armed robbery attack but later discovered it was the building that collapsed.

She said: “We suddenly heard a loud shaking noise in the midnight, we were scared because we thought it was armed robbers.”

“We rushed out to the scene, on getting there, we see that the building had sunk and collapsed.”
