Atiku Reacts As Oyo PDP Supporters Shout His Name During Wike's Speech At G5 Rally

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn on Wednesday with an allegation from a member of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) that a national vice-chairman of the party and some other top chieftains are responsible for the issues.

The NEC member, Chinemerem Madu in a statement on Wednesday alleged that the party leaders including some NEC members behind the PDP crisis have received money to continue to fuel disagreements.

He added that the calls for the resignation of the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu are just a distraction while the main target of those behind the crisis is to frustrate the ambition of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Position Of Wike And His Loyalists

Naija News recalls Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and some other Governors in his camp have been behind the demands for Ayu’s resignation over claims of concentration of party leadership in the north.

Their demand has thrown the PDP into a yet-to-be-resolved crisis with just a few months to the 2023 presidential election in the country.

The Wike camp has also withdrawn from taking part in the presidential campaigns of the party except Ayu resigns and is replaced by a southerner.

This stand was further buttressed on Wednesday as Wike and his loyalists shunned the official inauguration of the PDP presidential campaign council.

Sharing his allegation about the lingering crisis, Madu said the unnamed national vice chairman has confessed to receiving huge cash to frustrate Atiku’s bid and disrupt the party’s presidential campaigns.

He alleged further that part of the plans of the group is to orchestrate press conferences where damaging statements will be made against Atiku shortly after the official commencements of campaigns for the 2023 presidential election.

Madu said he exposed the scheme when he got to know about it when he was approached for support by those responsible for the crisis because he is a “loyal and very dedicated party man”.

He said; “Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are alerted of furtive moves by a compromised national vice chairman and a couple of members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to derail our Presidential Campaign and scuttle the deserving victory of our Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the 2023 general elections.

“This national vice chairman and his cohorts who confessed to having been heavily bankrolled are approaching and offering members of NEC sums ranging from N25 million to N28 million each to address a damaging press conference with fabrications aimed at derailing the presidential campaign.

“The said national vice chairman had approached me personally as a member of NEC to inform me of plots to orchestrate a heavily funded press conference to be addressed by select NEC members seemingly calling for the resignation of the national chairman, Sen. Dr Iyorchia Ayu, but actually targeted at frustrating the Atiku Abubakar presidential bid.

“He pointedly confessed to me that the demands and agitation of his group have not been against the party chairman, as the public has been made to believe, but against Atiku Abubakar. He also vowed that nothing will assuage the group which is now bent on derailing the PDP presidential campaign.

Strategy Agaisnt Atiku

Madu alleged that the press conferences are strategically planned to come up during campaigns so as to destabilize Atiku.

He added that; “Central to this plot is the timing of the damaging press conference, which has been scheduled to hold soon after the inauguration of the PDP presidential campaign council and the official commencement of campaigns with a view to unsettle the PDP presidential campaign and scuttle Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid.

“Part of the scheme is to use the press conference to throw up a heavily concocted script which will contain unprintable damaging claims, assertions and allusions that will trigger confusion within the party and sidetrack the presidential campaign.”
