The PUNCH: The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday convened an emergency meeting following the withdrawal of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, ex-Information Minister, Prof. Jerry Gana, and other prominent party chieftains from the party’s presidential campaign council.

The Guardian: After maintaining a studied silence since last week when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unveiled its presidential campaign committee for 2023 elections that included the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, the governor’s camp, yesterday, withdrew from the committee, reigniting a fresh episode in the crisis that had gripped the opposition party since it concluded its presidential primary in May.

Vanguard: The National Industrial Court, NIC, sitting in Abuja, yesterday, ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to call off its seven-month-old strike. But ASUU in a swift reaction said it would appeal the ruling today, just as the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, expressed satisfaction with the order of the court, saying students had been the major victims of the strike.

This Day: For the umpteenth time, President Muhammadu Buhari has stated his resolve to bequeath free, fair and credible elections to the country. Buhari made the iteration yesterday in his last speech as Nigerian president at the on-going annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The Nation: There is no let-up in the crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Ayu-must-go vanguards yesterday vowed not to join the campaign train of presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for as long as Dr. Iyorchia Ayu remained in office as the party’s national chairman.

Daily Trust: Nigerians will not be able to use their Naira debit cards for international transactions as scarcity of foreign exchange (forex)worsens in Africa’s largest economy and biggest oil exporter.
