PDP Crisis: Ayu Asked To Resign, Surrender To EFCC For Probe

The Atiku Abubakar Campaign Council has said the demands for the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, have already been addressed.

According to the council spokesman, Charles Aniagwu, the National Executive Committee had already passed a vote of confidence on Ayu, thereby addressing the issue.

Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday called for Ayu’s resignation, and demanded the chairmanship position should be occupied by someone from the South.

The governor made the call during the meeting between the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the PDP South West leaders in Ibadan.

Speaking with The Punch, Aniagwu said the calls for Ayu to step down have been overtaken by events and should not be the subject of discussion.

The Delta State Commissioner for Information said the constitution of the party should be followed and not thrown away as if it is a party not governed by law.

He said, “I am sure that the NEC of the party has resolved those issues, particularly within the provisions of the law. And before now, a statement was issued where the presidential candidate also addressed a number of those issues.

“We have a law which cannot be thrown away and begin to do as if we are not a party governed by law.

“It must also be said that Makinde recognized him (Atiku) as the presidential candidate of the party and he said by the grace of God, the next President of Nigeria.

“For him to be the President of Nigeria, it shows that Makinde will work for him. That is the implication.

“Ayu’s going has been overtaken by events. It is something that has already been addressed.”
