Buhari Seeks Senate’s Approval For N16 Billion Refund To Borno
President Muhammadu Buhari

Approval has been given for the acquisition of the Gombe State Airport by the Federal Government.

President Muhammadu Buhari consented to the takeover on Friday, September 9, 2022, the state governor, Muhammad Yahaya, confirmed this to newsmen today shortly after a brief meeting with the President at the Aso Rock Villa, Naija News reports.

Governor Yahaya was optimistic that the development would be a drive towards attracting investors to the state.

He noted further that the move would ensure the availability of funds to maintain the facility throughout the lifespan of its operation.

Yahaya disclosed that during the meeting with the president, important matters including political developments in Gombe were discussed and concerns were shown.

He insisted that the Gombe State Investment Summit will be held in the first week of October.

“The summit would attract investors and ultimately increase the internally generated revenue of the northeastern state in the wake of the 13-year insurgency that ravaged the region,” The PUNCH quoted Yahaya as saying.

2023: Why Buhari Won’t Drop INEC REC Nominees – Lai Mohammed

In another news, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said President Buhari will not drop the names of those nominated as Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Naija News reports that the minister disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Abuja last Wednesday.

Mohammed was reacting to a call by some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) asking Buhari to drop the names of those nominated for the position due to their partisanship.

The CSOs had said earlier that some of the nominees for INEC RECs are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), therefore violating the Electoral Act, 2022.

Speaking, Mohammed said President Buhari will not reject the nominees until it is proven that they are not members of the ruling party.

The minister stated that the nominees will have to face the Senate where they will be thoroughly interrogated before confirmation.
