Policeman Commits Suicide In Rivers State After Mistakenly Killing Colleague

One Ibrahim Hassan is currently being grilled by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Kwara State Command over the alleged killing of his father, Sabi Ibrahim.

It was gathered that the middle-aged man killed his nonagenarian father so he could get free access to his Automated Teller Machine (ATM card).

Naija News learnt that the suspect committed the offence in August at the Ajibesin area along Okolowo Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

Confirming the incident to newsmen at the force headquarters earlier on Thursday, the spokesman of the Kwara State Command, SP Okansanmi Ajayi, said Hassan carried out the heinous act on August 5, 2022.

According to him, one Aishat Ibrahim had approached the force command on August 5 to report that her 90-year-old dad was missing.

The force according to Ajayi, swung into action immediately and arrested the suspect who is the biological son of the said missing old man.

“During the investigation, he confessed to have administered paracetamol injection mixed with other substances on his father, who became weak and dizzy immediately after the injection,” Ajayi said.

The PPRO explained further that, “He (the suspect) killed the deceased after coming from the bank where he had taken him to renew and collect his ATM card.

“He then took the father on a motorcycle he borrowed to convey his father to an isolated uncompleted building and strangulated him to death. Thereafter, he said he dug a shallow grave where he buried his father after dispossessing him of the ATM card they went to the bank to collect,” Ajayi narrated.

Hassan confessed that after killing and burying his father, he escaped to Kaduna State and started withdrawing from the deceased’s account.

Narrating further, Ajayi said “the suspect withdrew a total sum of N59,000. He stated further that the purpose of killing his father was to dispossess him of the ATM card since he already knew the pin. He also sold the borrowed motorcycle and eloped to Kaduna State where he was eventually arrested.”

Items recovered from the suspect, Naija News learnt include an ATM card and the stolen motorcycle.

Ajayi said Hassan would be charged to court after investigations.
