2023: Thugs May Hijack Political Campaigns – DSS

Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS), has confirmed the arrest of an aide to controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Gum, Tukur Mamu.

Mamu’s arrest was confirmed in a statement obtained by Naija News on Wednesday and signed by the DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunaya.

The DSS stated that the bandit negotiator was apprehended based on requests from Nigeria’s Military, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence Community to their foreign partners in Cairo, Egypt.

The agency said Mamu was arrested to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country.

The DSS statement read: “The Department of State Services (DSS) has been inundated with enquires in respect of the arrest or otherwise of Tukur Mamu, the self-acclaimed Kaduna Train hostage negotiator.

“This is to confirm that Manu, as a person of interest, was intercepted by Nigeria’s foreign partners at Cairo, Egypt, on 6th September 2022 while on his way to Saudi Arabia.

“He has since been returned to the country today, 7th September 2022, and taken into the Service’s custody.

“The act followed a request by Nigeria’s Military, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence Community to their foreign partners to bring back Mamu to the country to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country.

“The public may wish to note that the law will appropriately take its course.”

Cairo’s Incident

Naija News reports that Mamu, who was reportedly arrested at the Cairo International Airport on Tuesday and repatriated back to Nigeria, was picked up by DSS from the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano on Wednesday upon his deportation from Egypt.

Mamu was said to be on his way to Saudi Arabia with his family members for lesser Hajj before he was arrested and detained by Egyptian authorities for 24 hours.

He was arrested by heavily armed operatives stationed at the entrance of the international wing of the Kano at about 1:55 pm.
