Premier League: Ronaldo On Bench As Brighton Knocks Man United 2-1

Manchester United on Sunday had a poor start into the 2022/2023 English Premier League campaign as Brighton got a famous win against them at Old Trafford.

Naija News reports that the Red Devils’ manager, Erik ten Haag benched Portugal star, Cristiano Ronaldo on Sunday afternoon and made the striker watch two goals into United’s net in the opening half.

Pascal Gross scored twice for Brighton after United forward, Bruno Fernandes had missed an opening chance for the Red Devils.

Gross made good use of a cross from former United player, Danny Welbeck, from the back post to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Naija News understands that there were boos at United players as the visitors made their home stadium a hell to claim three points in their first match in the ongoing campaign.

Ronaldo though was brought on from the bench after he was ‘sidelined’ in the starting line-up, his efforts were not enough to rescue United from the disappointing home defeat.

An own-goal in the 68minutes by Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister had given the host a beam of hope, the Red Devils, however, could not close the gap.

United had earlier confirmed that Ronaldo was fit and ‘ready’ to play the opening game, but disappointed their fans in the end.
