Student Abducted As Gunmen Invade Varsity In Cross River
Unknown Gunmen on Wednesday stormed Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo loal government area of Cross River state and abducted a female student of the institution.
The university, which is over 15 kilometers from Calabar, the state capital, is owned by Sir Authur Jarvis, a former People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the state.
It was gathered the gunmen accosted students returning from class on Tuesday night, July 19, and abducted one of the students.
The acting registrar of the institution, Mrs Ughas Ngozi confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement, while assuring that the school is in control of the situation.
The statement reads, “The university management is on top of events and the security agencies are in control of the situation.
“All students and staff are requested to remain calm and go about their normal duties.”
Other students who escaped from the attack sustained various degrees of injuries, according to The Nation
The state police public relations officers, Irene Ugbo, while verifying the attack on the university, said the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan has drafted the anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism and dragon units to forestall law and order and rescue the kidnap victim.
Ugbo added that the police had launched investigations to unravel the cause of the attack on the students of the private university.
