Explaining why he eventually opted for a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the APC presidential candidate said his decision to pick Shettima was arrived at after wide consultation with party leaders and members.

Tinubu said all his life, decisions regarding the team around and supporting him had always been guided by the principles of competence, innovation, compassion, integrity, fairness, and adherence to excellence.

In an interview with Vanguard, Yakasai supported the decision of Tinubu to choose another Muslim as his vice-presidential candidate.

The elder statesman described the decision to choose Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate as the right decision and well calculated, saying that the Muslim-Muslim ticket can win any presidential election.

He however allays fear nursed by some Nigerians that the Muslim-Muslim ticket is a threat to the collective well-being and unity of Nigeria.

He said: “We have had it before, MKO Abiola and Kingibe, and they won the election. It’s just that the military cancelled the election, but they won. The Muslim-Muslim ticket can win an election in Nigeria.

“Do you think it will be right for Tinubu, a Muslim who is a minority in the South to pick a Christian who is a minority in the north as his running mate and you expect him to win the election? You cannot.”
