An early Friday morning inferno has caused unrest in Alagbodo, along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Naija News understands.

The raging fire according to reports started after a fuel-laden tanker fell and exploded in the area.

Yet to be ascertained number of houses and shops reportedly went up in flames, and properties worth fortunes have burnt to ashes in the process.

Daily Trust reports that the fire started around 3:00 am while people were still sleeping in their house.

It was alleged that the fire broke out after some miscreants were scooping fuel from the fallen tanker.

Reports, however, revealed that emergency officials, including firefighters from the Lagos State Fire Service, are currently at the scene battling to put out the fire and salvage other properties.

Meanwhile, the Benue State branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was gutted by fire on Thursday.

A section of the apex bank in Benue State was covered with smoke in a video spotted online, Naija News reports.

It was gathered that the fire started from the fuel dome of the building, however, it did not affect other sections.

The first incident at the apex bank caused tension in the bank located at the Old GRA opposite the United Bank of Africa (UBA) in Makurdi.

The Director of Benue State Fire Service, Donald Ikyaaza, on Thursday confirmed the incident.

He further stated that he received a call informing him about the fire and he immediately drafted his men to the scene.

Ikyaaza said, “It was actually a huge fire which started at the company’s fuel dome but my men rushed to the scene and put out the fire before it could spread to other parts of the bank. Everywhere is calm now.”
