Police Arrest Two Soldiers, Three Others Over Robbery Operation In Borno

The Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Borno State has apprehended two men of the Nigerian Army over alleged involvement in a robbery operation.

The army personnel Naija News understands were nabbed alongside three other civilians for involvement in the criminal acts.

The five suspects were said to have robbed a Point of Sale operator identified as Yusuf Usman.

Confirming their arrest in a statement released on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police in the state, Abdu Umar said the suspects had committed the offence on February 6 at GSM Market, Bulumkutu, in Maiduguri.

According to the police boss, the suspects robbed Usman of his POS business money and also killed a man.

Another innocent citizen of the state reportedly sustained injuries during the robbery operation.

The Police boss explained further that operatives of the Command initially arrested three of the suspects – Mustapha Lawan, alias Bakura Dantawaye, Abubakar Mohammed, alias Bro Shagi, and Umar Ibrahim.

He said the trio confessed to the crime and named two other members of the gang, who were soldiers, lgogo Michael and Jibrin Adamu.

Umar said that the police trailed and arrested the two soldiers on Sunday, adding that they also confessed to the crime.

They (two soldiers) were court-martialed by the military authority before being transferred to the command for further investigation,” he said.

Umar also told newsmen that the police had arrested some suspected armed robbers in the last five months for allegedly attacking POS operators in Maiduguri.
