One Killed, Two Injured As Militants Attack UERL In Akwa Ibom

Some militants have reportedly killed a driver working at Universal Energy Resources Ltd. (UERL) in Akwa Ibom State.

Reports made available to newsmen on Friday revealed that the dreaded group had attacked the firm located in Unyenge, Mbo Local Government Area of the state on Thursday morning.

Naija News reports that the State Police Command has confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Odiko Macdon.

According to Macdon, the police command yesterday received a distress call that militants attacked UERL staff at Unyenge in Mbo LGA.

“We got a report that there was an ambush which led to the death of one person, a driver, while two others were left with injuries,” Macdon said.

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Andrew Amiengheme had ordered investigations into the attack.

“As l speak, investigation is ongoing on the incident,” the PPRO reiterated.

In other news, troops of the Nigerian Army have killed three suspected kidnappers who have been terrorizing residents in Plateau State.

The spokesman of Operation Safe Haven, Major Ishaku Takwa, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday in Jos, the state capital, Naija News reports.

Takwa said the suspects were killed around the Gyero community in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

He disclosed that troops recovered several items such as one AK-47 rifle, 2 AK-47 rifle magazines, 101 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and one tricycle (Keke Napep) from the criminals.

Takwa revealed that the gunmen also participated in the Jos prison jailbreak on 28 November 2021.
