The Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command has said that no fewer than one thousand and thirty-five criminal suspects were arrested within the space of eight months in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, made this known on Thursday, August 19 during a one-day familiarisation visit of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Johnson Kokumo, to the police command headquarters, Naija News reports.

OIumosu said the suspects were arrested at different locations in the state for offences ranging from murder to cultism and armed robbery.

The Lagos police boss revealed further that the command also made some citizens of the state smile by helping them to recover their stolen vehicles from criminal elements.
He noted that stolen cars numbering 42, were recovered within a few days and subsequently handed over to their owners.

Odumosu stated that 17,967 police personnel were providing security in Lagos, adding that 148 murder cases were recorded within the period under review.

Odumosu said, “A total of 490 armed robbery suspects and 397 suspected cultists were arrested within January and August 2021; 173 assorted arms and 239 ammunition of various calibres were also recovered.

“The command also put smiles on the faces of some distraught Nigerians whose cars were stolen, as such cars, numbering 42, were recovered within a few days and subsequently handed over to their owners.

“Also, what many pessimists had anticipated would be a major political crisis before, during and after the just concluded local government election held in the state, turned out to be fair and credible due to the watertight security provided during the election.”
