The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, says it is keenly following the crisis rocking the Edo state chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

Naija News reports that the PDP made this known in a terse statement issued by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, in reaction to the Edo APC crisis ahead of the Edo 2020 governorship election.

The PDP spokesman said the Edo APC crisis shows that a “new life is brewing in Edo State,” southern Nigeria, adding that he spoke with the governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki who recently resigned his membership of the APC.

Ologbondiyan said in the tweet that he commended Obaseki’s “bold and courageous decision to abandon the fizzling Congress”, adding that the time has come for all democrats to rally together and save Nigeria from the failures of the APC.

The tweet reads: “A new life is brewing in Edo State… @OfficialPDPNig as a major stakeholder is keenly following the development.”

Meanwhile, since Obaseki resigned his APC membership, the ruling party has seen the Court of Appeal uphold the suspension of its National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. Following the court ruling, the APC named Abiola Ajimobi whois reportedly sick as its Acting Chairman.

Ajimobi’s emergence as APC Acting National Chairman has created more crisis in the APC with Victor Giadom saying he has taken over as acting National Chairman of the party.

Shortly after announcing his takeover, Giadom announced he has cancelled the Edo State Governorship screening exercise which disqualified Godwin Obaseki. He also directed aspirants in both Edo and Ondo states to reappear for fresh screening.

However, shortly after Giadom’s emergence, the Deputy National Chairman (South-South) of the APC, Hilliard Eta took over as the acting National Chairman of the party. He also declared as vacant the office of the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Victor Giadom.
