Police Foil Bank Robbery, Arrest One In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has roiled a robbery attack against a commercial bank in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Naija News understands that the robbery attack against the bank was foiled after the arrest of a suspected armed robber in the Olorunshogo Area of Mushin.

The robbery attack was foiled by the intelligent men of the Olosan Police Station led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ayodele Arogbo.

During the foiled robbery attack, the leader of the gang identified as Mahmoud Mohammed was arrested while other gang members escaped.

According to reports, the robbers had arrived their scene of operation on two motorcycles to rob the commercial bank when they were intercepted by the operatives of the State Police.

Upon interrogation, Mohammed confessed to being a member of a gang that specialised in robbing banks and their customers in Lagos and other states.

“Once a customer withdraws money from the bank, we will monitor and confirm if it is a huge withdrawal. We will then trail such a person to their house and rob him or her. We have successfully done that on several occasions. Recently, we robbed a woman in Ijegun through the same method, but we didn’t hurt her,” the arrested suspect was quoted to have said.

While confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, Bala Elkana disclosed that the Commissioner of Police Zubairu Muazu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit for further investigation, adding that the Nigerian Police have already commenced intensified efforts to arrest other members of the gang.
