King Of Iwo Wanted!! Accused of Doing Yahoo Yahoo

An Osun State Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that a first-class traditional ruler in the state, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, be arrested and brought to trial over allegations of being an Internet fraudster popularly called Yahoo-Yahoo.

Channels TV reports that the court issued a warrant of arrest against the Oba he failed to show up in court to defend allegations against him.
The arrest warrant, according to the report, is coming a few days after the president of the court, Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko, threatened that if Oba Akanbi failed to appear before him in compliance with the order of the court on November 25, 2016, in a case filed against him by the Oluwo of Iwo-Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye, he would have no option but to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.

But at the resumed sitting, Oba Akanbi was again missing in court and instead, sent another monarch, Oba Asimiyu Sadiq, the Ologburo of Ogburo, to represent him, something that drew the anger of the Magistrate Aluko who promptly issues the arrest warrant.

Prior to the court proceedings, the Oluwo of Iwo-Oke, Oba Adeoye, had approached the Magistrate Court accusing the Oba Akanbi of concealing some facts about his past to the state government when he was installed last year.

In a 33-paragraph affidavit, Oba Adeoye said Oba Akanbi’s character did not befit a person of his status and calibre as he was used to carrying about armed thugs, miscreants and hoodlums to harass, intimidate, molest and attack persons whom he perceived as his enemies.

Oba Adeoye further alleged that Oba Akanbi forged his name to obtain travelling documents to the United States where he was jailed in New York City and was deported to Nigeria in the year 2000.

The affidavit also stated that Oba Akanbi later travelled out with his real name to Canada in 2001 and became a Canadian citizen but was also arrested in Toronto and was in jail between 2006 and 2007.

Oba Adeoye added that Oba Akanbi was making money through Internet fraud or Yahoo-Yahoo, as it is called in local parlance, using his palace as a cover-up.

But Oba Akanbi, in reacted to the allegations in a 13-paragraph affidavit, described the application filed against him as scandalous, vexatious and designed to embarrass, blackmail and ridicule him in the view of right thinking members of the society, vowing to take up the case to a higher court in the land.
